Every now and then it is necessary to look back at with nostalgia; the path you took to arrive where you have today. It is imperative to think about the friends you made, or the people who you didn't quite got along with. It is okay to mull over things that were and could have been only if you were as astute and collected as you are today.
Today was such a day for me, today I thought about all the people who make up my life. People who came into my life before college, before I moved to California. People who made a mark forever in my memory and people who I cant remember, as much as I try.
I remember Mr. Smiths' Advance English and Shakespeare and Chaucer class, Mr. Wodeks' Geography and US History, Brain Feddermans' (who by the way was one of the most influential people from that time) Pre Calculus. I remember lunch and how we lined up to get quesadilla and chocolate milk, and how this one time the lunch lady gave me a ham quesadilla, even though I confirmed a few times before I walked towards my table. I remember how Daina Parent approached me sitting on the bleachers trying to watch a basketball game between Leland and some other team. And the drama practices where Mr. Evans would look at me with pity (because I was so bad), like I was a puppy and tell me to do a scene a certain way the 100th time. And how anyone and everyone was so nice, they said 'Hi' to someone so alien to them without a clue about who and why he was. I remember how someones' dog got hit by car right outside Ms. Balls' potting shed. And then the next day I found out it belonged to Whitney Schaub and meant to tell her how sorry I was she had lost him/her, but never did.
The most amazing times were my trips to Suttons bay and Traverse city, or the Mackinaw Island. They were not amazing because I did something eventful, only because I found more about the world outside Lake Leelanau and Leland.
Certain things irk me about this time too. Like how alone I was, and how people didnt make any effort to make someone from a different place more comfortable. The only person who I thought made any effort was Daina and as it turned out even she had a exterior motive. At the end of it all I heard she told our friends I was trying to watch her change into her night gown or whatever; peeping into her 2nd level Comfort Inn room from the 1st level. Sad part is that Ben Schaub was the person she shared this with, and he decided to spread this all over and by the end of the year every guy thought I was a pervert. People ignored me, tended to be aloof and indifferent towards me. If only one of them would have come up to me and confronted me.
Oh well! This is all in the past and I hope to leave the negativity, the regrets far, farther away somewhere and move on with great memories of a Lake Leelanau summer and its clear water lakes.
Just that!
